Mohini Ekadashi is observed on the Ekadashi date of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. This Ekadashi holds special significance in Hinduism. It is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini to retrieve the nectar from the demons and return it to the gods.

On this day, devotees observe a fast and worship Lord Vishnu. This fast is believed to absolve sins and fulfill wishes. Donating and performing acts of charity also hold special significance on this day.

Designated Mahurat for 2025

The auspicious fast of Mohini Ekadashi will be observed on May 10, 2025. The Ekadashi tithi will begin on May 9, 2025, at 5:56 PM and will end on May 10, 2025, at 7:38 PM. The fast will be broken the next day, i.e., on May 11, 2025. The auspicious time (shubh muhurat) for breaking the fast is from 5:32 AM to 8:14 AM.

Ritual Procedure

Preparation for the Fast (on Dashami Day):

  • Eat your meal before sunset on Dashami day.
  • Observe celibacy during the night.
  • Meditate on Lord Vishnu and take a vow to observe the fast.

On the day of Ekadashi:

  • Wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
  • Clean the home temple and place an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.
  • Offer yellow flowers, fruits, incense, lamp, and food to Lord Vishnu. Be sure to offer Tulsi leaves.
  • Recite or listen to the Vishnu Sahasranama

Significance

Mohini Ekadashi holds special significance in Hinduism. This Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s Mohini form, which he assumed during the churning of the ocean to help the gods obtain the nectar of immortality.
