Bagalamukhi Jayanti is an auspicious Hindu festival celebrating the birth anniversary of Goddess Bagalamukhi, the eighth of the ten Mahavidyas. She is revered as a powerful deity who grants victory over enemies, legal disputes, and obstacles, and has the power to silence and paralyze negativity and evil forces. Devotees worship her for protection from enemies, success in legal matters, removal of obstacles, and gaining control over negative influences. She is believed to bestow courage, resilience, and righteousness.
Bagalamukhi Jayanti falls on the Ashtami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the Hindu month of Vaisakh. In 2025, it will be celebrated on Monday, May 5th.
Devotees typically begin the day with an early morning bath, often wearing yellow attire as it is the Goddess’s favorite color. A clean altar is prepared, preferably facing east, and a yellow cloth is spread. An idol or image of Goddess Bagalamukhi is placed on it. The puja commences with meditation of the Goddess, followed by invocation to invite her presence. Offerings of yellow flowers (like marigolds), yellow sweets (like besan ladoo), yellow cloth, turmeric, and other traditional items are made.
A diya with ghee is lit, and incense is offered. Devotees then chant the Bagalamukhi Mantra “Om Hleem Bagalamukhi Sarva Dushtanaam Vaacham Mukham Padam Stambhaya Jihvaam Keelaya Buddhim Vinaashaya Hleem Om Swaha” with devotion, often using a turmeric mala. Recitation of Bagalamukhi Kavach and Stotram is also considered auspicious for protection against negative energies. Some devotees observe a fast on this day, breaking it in the evening.
The puja concludes with aarti and distribution of prasad. Visiting Bagalamukhi temples and participating in special ceremonies are also part of the observance. It’s important to perform the puja with sincerity and devotion to receive the blessings of Maa Bagalamukhi.

This representation signifies her ability to freeze the wicked plans of adversaries and render them powerless. She is often seated on a golden throne, symbolizing her regal authority and unwavering justice.
